The Uxbridge Public Schools will be conducting a
screening on January 17, 2017 from 12:30-2:00 for 3
and 4 year old children who are residents of Uxbridge. If
you have concerns about your child's speech and language,
cognitive, fine motor, and/or gross motor skills, please
contact Jill Burr or Karen Alberta at the Taft Early
Learning Center at (508) 278-8643 to schedule an
appointment.

Lottery
Pre-Kindergarten is available to Uxbridge residents only. Families will be
notified of the outcome mid-February with further instructions. With the four-year-old
classes, preference is given to returning students. Those
not chosen through the lottery will be placed on a waiting
list. After the initial registration process is complete,
should any Pre-Kindergarten slots become available we will
continue to take names from the waiting list. Many changes
take place between the months of February and
September. You still have a chance to get in!
Classes
Pre-Kindergarten classes are held on either Tuesday and
Thursday mornings (8:45-11:15 a.m.) or on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday
in the morning (8:45-11:15 a.m.) or in the afternoon (12:00
– 2:30 p.m.). One class meets on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday,
Thursday, and Friday mornings (8:45-11:15 a.m.)
First Day of School
In order to ease the adjustment into Pre-Kindergarten for
your child we will hold an Open House. Dates and time will
be posted later.
Tuition
Tuition for the 2017-2018 two day program
is $1,600 annually; three day program is $2,400 annually and
for the five day program is $4,000 annually. If payment is made in one
lump sum you may deduct 5%. A payment plan is available in
ten month installments, due on the 15th of each month
beginning in August. Final payments will be due on May 15th.
In case of tardy payments, a fee of $25 will be assessed.
Failure to pay for the service (including late charges) by
the end of the month (30 days) will result in termination of
the service. In addition, the Town Collector’s Office will
charge a $25 fee for returned checks. Personal checks or
money orders should be made
payable to Uxbridge Public Schools. (Sorry we are unable
to accept cash.) Tuition is subject to
change.
Holiday and snow days are considered part of the school
schedule and are inclusive in the tuition costs.
Registration
Once your child has been selected in the lottery, initial
registration must be completed by mid-April. Your child’s
birth certificate, proof of most recent yearly physical.
immunization records and proof of Uxbridge residence (a
recent utility bill with your name and address on it – no
P.O. box), and a forty dollar non-refundable registration fee
are required at this time (check made payable to Uxbridge
Public Schools). Renters can get a Landlord’s Affidavit form
to complete as proof of residency from the office. The
Physician’s Immunization Form must be received, on or before
July 1st, as our school nurse works limited hours during the
summer. Please call the office if your child’s physical
appointment is scheduled later than July 1st. Please note
that all children must be potty trained (no pull-ups).
Changing diapers takes time away from the classroom.
Special requests for classrooms, times, etc. are considered
but cannot be guaranteed due to the complexity of scheduling
the classroom structure.
The brief Pre-Kindergarten screenings are schedule to give
us an opportunity to “put a face with a name” and give us a
quick look at your child’s speech and language skills and
social interaction style. This is not a standardized
screening so there is no “pass” or “fail”. Therefore, there
will be no follow-up letter stating results. It is our
expectation that most of the children will do just fine. If
something is noted that we feel warrants a closer look in
the fall, we will notify you. Otherwise “no news is good
news”.
Parent Conferences/Progress Reports
Parent conferences are scheduled twice during the school
year. These day and evening conferences are scheduled during
Education Week in November and in June. Be aware that at
any time you may have a question about your child’s
progress, his/her teacher will be more than happy to
schedule time to discuss your concerns.
